I am Rwandese and I’m 22 years old. I was the eldest of four children (two girls and two boys).
Our country is situated in the center of Africa and is surrounded by countries that have many wars. In our country, more than one million people were killed during the genocide, in which, in 1994, I lost my two aunts, my uncle, my grandmother, my father, my two little brothers (one was killed at just four years old and the other at 2 years old). I now just had my mother, my little sister, and the few remaining members of our family.
To fill all of this emptiness and loss from the deaths around me, I threw myself into my studies and made that my primary goal and objective. This sentiment has never left me. But this has been a little difficult because in this new life with all the loss we were dealing with, many obstacles arose that did not easily let me study.
I ask myself “How will I reach this objective if I cant find a way to finish my studies?”
For this reason I am grateful to the Uyisenga Scholars and hope to attend University soon.
