Our Model
The DVD curriculum aims to educate middle and high school students in five main topics:
- What is poverty?
- Why does poverty exist?
- Where is poverty?
- How development can alleviate poverty?
- What YOU can do about poverty?
Each one of these topics is covered in a 10-12 minute section on the DVD. Interactive lesson plan activities will then be incorporated in the classroom to help students understand the various issues of poverty and enable them the leadership skills to make a difference.
In addition to the lesson plan and DVD components, there will be a highly interactive website. The website will host a series of resources on poverty and what students can do.
- The DVD-based curriculum will be marketed to high schools and middle schools. All proceeds from sales will be put directly back into the project by providing student grants for young social entrepreneurs.
- The DVD-based curriculum aligns with state and national standards and is perfectly crafted to match existing class objectives and goals.
What will be on the website?
- Resources: Interactive material relating to poverty, social entrepreneurship and development worldwide.
- News: Up to date articles that students can browse through to learn more.
- Book Recommendations: The website will compile lists of books and material that students will find enjoyable to learn more.
- Interactive forum: Students will be able to share their social entrepreneurial projects with other students across the country, be inspired by projects they see, and even collaborate with each other from anywhere in the world.
- Assessment tools: Teachers can access these materials to gauge their student’s learning as they participate in this interactive curriculum.
- Ways to get involved: We will highlight some of the best organizations that students can join.
- Stories to motivate: We will include lots of inspirational stories of students who were able to make a difference.
